Bet you'd all thought I'd given up writing...some of you may even well have hoped I had :-) but I'm afraid you don't get rid of me that easily.
I was somewhat overwhelmed by the positive response from a large number of you, I felt compelled to write day after day...about the things that I enjoyed, things that bothered me and tried in my own special way to share some of my experiences and knowledge in the hope that I can inspire or encourage people to make a positive change.
I guess as humans that's one of our biggest fears...change... the unknown...the fear of 'what if?'
But 'what if' I said that change scares us all, every one of us...it's how we go about conquering those fears that will forever define us...will make you into a stronger person, will get you the things you want out of life!
Big change is not always the way forward...especially if you have a tendency to never make changes. You need to take small steps, to learn how to cope with change so that when the time comes to make bigger changes, you have the skills, the experience and more importantly, the people around you to support you through the transition.
I want you to think about parts of your life that you might be able to bring in small amounts of positive change...it doesn't need to be at work or at home, it could be friends, a hobby, travel...anything really...but something you feel most comfortable with.
An example of steps I took to bring about a positive impact in my life was to implement some small goals...daily goals...rules that I wanted to start living my life by...and I'd like to share them with you. These 3 things will help you come out of your comfort zone and create a new comfort zone...until it snowballs into something bigger and you are living your life by these rules without consciously knowing you're doing them...then you can push on and create new, bigger, more important ones:
Daily Goals
1. Learn One New Thing. This can be the minutest little thing or the biggest thing since sliced bread. It really doesn't matter so long as you feel a sense that you are developing and growing as a person. For example...it could be a small thing like learning one new word or phrase in a different language, learning a new skill on the computer, learning about someone else, their skills and how they go about things...you get the idea. I'm not talking about learning how to become a brain surgeon in a day :-)
2. Solve One Challenge Either For Yourself or For Someone Else. This is a really satisfying one. This one really boosted my self confidence and made me feel part of something. It could be helping someone cross the road that's struggling, helping someone workout how to use the printer, solving business issues, working out how to build a book case for someone...it really can be that simple.
3. Take Some Sort Of Risk. Small or big, it doesn't matter...ever wanted to try that frappamocchastrawberrycrush drink from the coffee shop but never have because you think it might be horrible? Well...I challenge you to try it the next time you go in...what's the worst thing that can happen? You spit it out...laugh and say...that's not the most delightful thing I've ever tasked lol...but at least you'll know...you can pat yourself on the back and say...ok...bring on my next fear.
These are all small things that you may well even be doing already but without knowing you're doing them and recognising it, and giving yourself the credit where it's due...so here's a tip...for one month, I challenge you to write them down each day in a little notebook. At the end of each day, look at the list and give yourself praise. You'll be pleasantly surprised at just how much good you do, not just for yourself, but for others!
Opening your mind and actions towards others is extremely satisfying, both for the person you help and for yourself. It makes you both feel good...in the words of Jeremy Clarkson...'How hard can it be?'
I promise to not leave it as long before I post again and apologise to those that enjoyed reading my blog and have been waiting very patiently for more.
