Thoughtful Tuesday - Broken Biscuits

 

I know I've had my quirky titles, this one being no exception...so what on earth am I talking about?  Well...put simply, I believe people are like the broken biscuits in the box.  

Disclaimer: For those not in the UK, I apologise if this analogy doesn't translate...but essentially, these are biscuits that were broken in the factory and as such, weren't put in the packets, instead they take all the different broken varieties of biscuits they make and put them in one box and sell them as broken biscuits....how very enterprising...selling on your waste....note to self...what other products could be sold even though they are broken???? :-)This blog is also not intended as a way of saying we are all broken...far from it...so please stick with me...

What I am talking about is that just like the biscuits...we start out pure...with all the characteristics of the original biscuit...somewhere along the production line, something changes, something that changes us and our destiny for ever.. Generally we have become adults and we are now part of society.. Or in this case, a box of broken biscuits... and as such, collect all the crumbs and dust as we advance through life...our experiences, our relationships, our loves, our pain and sorrow...

One of the main experiences that we collect the dust and crumbs from is from a relationship...when things are great we collect all the great things and feel on top of the world...soaking up all that it has to offer...and then that someone smashes your heart into a million pieces and you are a crumbled mess...but somehow... Over time...you manage to gather yourself together to face the world again and trust someone new.

And so like the biscuit...dunking it into a fresh cup of tea may well get rid of most of the dust and crumbs..but still there will be the lasting flavour from all the other biscuits.... As with people...yes you go into the new relationship or friendship with an open mind... Ready to start afresh ...yet you will always have that air of caution...the benefit of hindsight... Some remaining flavours still on you...and I see that as a good thing... We learn from those experiences...we retain some of the characteristics of the relationships we've had and take them on to the next....some good, some bad...that's all down to each individual to figure out...but I for one try to learn how to be a better friend..a better partner..a better lover...learn that you aren't perfect...and neither is anyone else...we are all broken biscuits...but finding the right combination, I.e the right person that makes things feel perfect is the key...two people that partner through life together...that support and encourage one another...that stand by each other through thick and thin...

So I challenge you...ask yourself...do you come out of every relationship or friendship you've ever had believing that you did nothing wrong and that it's always the other persons fault?  Perhaps just take a minute to think back about how you treated that person and be honest with yourself... Did you give it 100% could you have been a better person... Could you...should you have tried harder to make things work? It may be too late to save those relationships now...I just urge you to learn and be honest with yourself.
