Happy Friday..Become a Do'er!

Hello Bert friends and Bert friends not yet known...

I want to start by wishing a Happy Thanks Giving to my USA friends.  I hope you have a wonderful time being together with loved ones.

I’m still reading my books (6 on the go at the moment), Gees...Alan Sugar can talk, but boy does he have an eye for business opportunities...and is very hands on with all his businesses. He likes to know all the details about his products, process and employees.  He makes them feel part of something, makes them feel they are contributing...sounds familiar to one of my posts a month or so ago.

Essentially, Alan describes how you need to be on top of your business...understand all the details, don’t sit in your ivory tower leading a dictatorship.  Get your hands dirty, show your staff you are prepared to muck in and above all, listen.

So what else have I been up to...well...you will have by now seen me in my wetsuit...not a pretty sight I know, but that was my first ever surf lesson.  I’ve been visiting San Diego for 7 years and never tried it.  I have someone behind me in my life now that is driving me to try new things, to push my own boundaries...to take me to new places and experience new things.  Time to be a do’er and not a say’er.

I’ve experienced many wonderful things in my life already through travel and meeting people, driving a formula 1 car, playing golf at St. Andrews, caddying in the BMW PGA Championship...etc...lots of amazing things...for which I am very appreciative...but the bottom line is... I’m just scratching the surface of the possibilities that this wonderful planet has to offer.

I want to walk up to those pearly gates and say...’I’ve lived...a life that’s full....I’ve travelled each...and every highway’.  Surely you wouldn’t want to look back on your life and think...’well I really wanted to do this that or the other, but I didn’t because I was scared or couldn’t be bothered to get off my arse to make it happen’.  That would be such a shame.

Those that sit around waiting for opportunity to knock on their door will be waiting a long time.  Become ‘lucky’...how do you do this though?...simple...by putting yourself in front of as many different people, as many different situations, as many places and countries as possible.  Present yourself to the world and show it what you are made of, what you can achieve and where you want to be.  This will get recognised and more and more opportunities will present themselves to you as influential people get to know you and learn what you have to offer and how you can add value to them and their businesses...and before you know it...your friends and family will deem you as being the one that has all the luck...when in fact all you did was to get off your backside and make it happen.

To that end I will be presenting myself in as many different pubs as possible this evening and talking to as many people as I can to broaden my network.   In all seriousness, how broad is your network?  Do you just socialise and meet with the same people week in week out, month after month, year after year?  Or are you the kind of person that enjoys meeting new people and establishing new relationships?  This is the way to be if you want fresh opportunities to come to you!

So I put it to you, get yourself out there...grab the world by the horns and face it...don’t be scared...the unknown should be exciting and energising...not something that stops you from achieving!

Have a great weekend.
